PAINTING
MEETS
ILLUSTRATION
Here, you will find the more illustrative pieces which I have been creating over the last couple of years. I have always found the distinction between illustration and painting to be a rather strange one. I enjoy seeing myself as someone who works at an intersection between the two spheres: at times dabbling more in the one than the other, and at other times merging them completely. I find that the demands of the contemporary art world can be quite stifling at times, the list of do's and don'ts ever-changing. I believe that the genre of illustration just doesn't have so many rules. It's this beautiful, playful and experimental space in which one has the freedom to work between a variety of mediums, launching visual investigations which are at their core more light-hearted and colourful. I have found that the more I am able to blend disciplines and boundaries through play and experimentation, while not getting caught up in the rhetoric of the day, the better my experience of the creative journey becomes.
